I use Giga mostly,but it depens on the enemy ship composition.In reference to weapons the OP brings up, the Giga Cannon seems better on paper but in a practical battle using at least a semi-decently designed fleet, the Giga Cannon isn't going to do nearly as well and ends up overlapping too much with Kinetic Artillary for anti-shield duties when you'd want a big scary anti-armor weapon to clean up from there.

Giga Cannon: a slightly weaker alternative to the Tachyon Lance that isn't as good at striking killing blows, but is great against shields which means it gets excellent value on that first long-range strike. . Perhaps put a Tachyon Lance instead of Giga Cannon on the Battleships, because 6x kinetic artillery and the cruiser autocannons are sufficient anti-shield damage. The Lance also doesn't have minimum range (but the other L-weapons do).
